Pleurothallis thysana is a small, cool-growing epiphyte native to Ecuador, found at elevations around 1500 meters. This miniature orchid is known for its elliptical, thick leaves and its thin, arching inflorescence.
- Light: Medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can easily burn the leaves of this miniature species.
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate. As a cool-growing orchid, it requires distinct night-time cooling. Maintain temperatures in the range of 60-78°F (16-26°C), ensuring the night temperature drops significantly (ideally to the lower end of this range).
- Humidity: High (70-90%). This species thrives with ample moisture in the air due to its cloud forest habitat. Excellent air movement is essential.
- Watering: Keep the potting medium or mounting material consistently moist year-round. It is best grown mounted or in a small pot with a fine, moisture-retentive mix.
Additional Notes
It blooms with small, bright orange flowers (about 0.2 inches or 5 mm). The sepals are fleshy, and the petals and lip are noticeably long and fimbriate (fringed), giving the tiny flower a textured appearance.
