This is a highly desirable climbing Aroid is prized for its striking, elongated, spear-shaped leaves. The main ornamental feature is the beautiful color contrast: a dark green top surface and a deep reddish-burgundy or maroon underside.
- Light: Requires bright, indirect light to achieve the deepest leaf coloration and compact growth. Low light will cause the colors to dull and the plant to become leggy.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm, tropical conditions, ideally in the range of 65-85°F (18-29°C). It must be protected from cold and temperatures dropping below 60°F (16°C).
- Humidity: High humidity is appreciated, with 60% or higher being beneficial for healthy, large leaf development. Use a humidifier or group the plant with others to increase ambient moisture.
- Watering: Water thoroughly, allowing the top 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the soil to dry out between applications. Use a loose, chunky, and well-draining mix to ensure the roots do not sit in soggy soil.
-
Maintenance: As a baby plant, repot according to growth until it reaches medium size. Provide adequate water, light, and fertilizer, but use less than for adult plants to avoid damaging development.
Additional Notes
The striking contrast between the two leaf surfaces makes it a focal point in any collection. The plant is considered toxic if ingested.
