This orchid is a popular cross between two color forms of C. purpurata. It's specifically bred for flowers that show exceptionally intense red-purple color in the lip. It grows robust, club-shaped pseudobulbs topped by a single, tough leaf.

  • Light: Give it very bright, indirect light, like filtered morning sun. High light levels are necessary for good flowering, but protect it from intense, direct sun.
  • Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm conditions. Maintain daytime temperatures between 65-86°F (18-30°C). A nighttime temperature drop of 10-15°F (5-8°C) is necessary for successful blooming.
  • Humidity: Needs moderate to high humidity (50-85%). Excellent air circulation is mandatory, especially in high humidity, to keep the plant healthy and prevent disease.
  • Watering: Water well when the potting medium is almost dry. Reduce watering frequency during the winter rest period after the pseudobulb fully matures.

Additional Notes

Flowers are large (6-8"), showy, and often fragrant, with 3 to 7 blooms per spike. For best growth, use well-draining media (bark or clay pellets) and only repot when new roots start to appear.
