This is a miniature, unifoliate (single-leafed), cool-growing epiphyte, native to the Philippines. It is a compact species valued for its unusual floral presentation. It is suitable for cultivation in terrariums or mounted on sphagnum moss.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or semi-shade. Diffused light is ideal; strictly avoid strong, direct sunlight, especially at midday.
  • Temperature: Cool-growing species. The optimal diurnal range is 68-81°F (20-27°C), with a beneficial night drop that can reach 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: Needs high ambient humidity, ideally 65% or more. Maintaining high humidity helps prevent the shriveling of the leaf and pseudobulbs.
  • Watering: Water regularly to keep the growing medium or moss (if mounted) consistently moist. Allow it to dry about 70-80% before watering again.

Additional Notes

This orchid is known for its clustered (capitate) inflorescence that looks like a 'head' of flowers, from which it gets its name. It produces small, often fragrant flowers arranged closely together.
