This is a rare, tropical climbing aroid known for its dramatic textural contrast. It is distinguished by its vibrant, fuzzy, coral-red or pink-scaled stems (petioles), which contrast sharply with its glossy, dark green, heart-shaped leaves.
- Light: Requires bright, indirect light, which is crucial for encouraging the most intense pink/red coloration on the stems. Avoid direct sunlight, as it will easily burn the foliage.
- Temperature: Thrives in warm, consistent temperatures, ideally between 68-85°F (20-29°C). Protect from temperatures below 50°F (10°C) and from sudden drafts.
- Humidity: Demands high humidity, ideally 60% or more, to maintain leaf health and prevent dry tips. A humidifier is strongly recommended.
- Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 20-30% of the chunky, well-draining aroid mix is dry to the touch. It is prone to root rot if overwatered.
Additional Notes
This plant begins as a terrestrial grower but needs vertical support, like a moss pole, to climb and mature. Like all philodendrons, this plant is toxic if ingested.
