Cattleya trianae var coerulea marina x cielo azul

The variety coerulea for blue or bluish colour variants of Cattleya trianae has not been officially mentioned to our knowledge to date. Thus the designation "var. coerulea" in this case is to be regarded as hort. (horticultural trade name). It is interesting in this context that a variety Cattleya trianae var. hooleana appears in Warner and Williams' Orchid Album in 1885, which has a distinctly bluish colour. Unfortunately, we do not have the description and original illustration, so if Cattleya trianaevar. hooleana is in the original a bluish-coloured variety, the name Cattleya trianae var. coeruleais invalid.
