This is a small to medium-sized epiphytic, and sometimes lithophytic, orchid native to cloud forests at altitudes between 2000 and 3500 meters. It is characterized by its ovoid and rugose pseudobulbs.
- Light: Prefers shade or soft indirect light, similar to the understory. Strictly avoid direct sunlight to prevent burns.
- Temperature: Cool-growing species: maintain temperatures between 45-75°F (7-24°C). A significant night drop (minimum 45°F (7°C)) is essential to induce flowering.
- Humidity: Needs constant and high humidity (70-90%), typical of cloud forests. Ensure excellent air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
- Watering: Water frequently and abundantly during active growth, allowing the substrate to dry very slightly between waterings. Use low-mineral water.
Additional Notes
The plant is attractive for its medium-sized flowers (2.5 to 4.5 cm) in vibrant shades, often red or orange.
It has been historically classified as Odontoglossum noezlianum or Cochlioda noezliana.
